On Wednesday May 25th, IHC students from Hindu, Islamic, and Christian faith traditions shared the importance of religion in their respective lives. A large group of IHC students and faculty attended.
Hindu presenters highlighted the significance of taking time out of each day for prayer and reflection, focusing upon the inspiration and comfort they experienced. Islamic students articulated the centrality of Islam as a way of life and the guidance they received through a focus on their religious practices including the 5 Pillars of Islam, the Qu’ran, and the inspiration provided by the life of the Prophet. Christian students shared the impact of Jesus on their daily lives, explaining the meaning of the trinity, and the transcendence of their faith.
The IHC community was reminded that all religious traditions share common elements of reaching beyond the day to day challenges of life to find meaning and context to the human experience. While several differences were discussed, the common interfaith goals of human flourishing, tolerance, peace, and understanding were readily acknowledged by all participants.
